About Limeworks Outdoor Services
Limeworks cleans and maintains the outside of homes and business premises in South and West Wales, and builds fences, decks and patios. It is a trading name of Dragon Multi-Trade Limited.
Where the name comes from
Lime kilns still stand in coves and harbours along the coast from Gower to Pembrokeshire. Limestone was brought in by boat and burnt in them with culm, a fine anthracite dust from the local coalfield.
The quicklime that came out was spread on fields to sweeten acid soil, and mixed into mortar and limewash for houses, barns and walls. Lime mortar is still found in many older houses and walls across the area.
The kiln in the photo is at Porthclais harbour, near St Davids.
